The State LawsuitIn a public hearing scheduled for Friday, April 5th, at 11:00 am. Judge Richard Raspallo will announce whether he will allow our case to proceed. We are hoping to demonstrate our concern over this issue by rallying people to show up at the courthouse that morning. We will try to get media coverage and have our press release ready to launch.
If Judge Raspallo dismisses the case, we will appeal to the Rhode Island Supreme Court. If he agrees to hear our case, we will let everyone know the date of our next court date. Winning this case would invalidate the Federal Government’s Record of Decision, forcing a halt to construction until the decision can be re-evaluated. The Federal Lawsuit Ørsted has requested to intervene as a defendant in our federal case and is attempting to separate our lawsuit into two separate cases: Revolution Wind and South Fork. Our lawyers are filing a strong counter argument.
Community Outreach We hosted a booth at the New England Saltwater Fishing Show in Providence last weekend. We had a steady stream of highly supportive fishers stop by the booth, pick up yard signs, and sign our petition. (See photo below). GO had spirited conversations with dozens of commercial and recreational fishers, CRMC, Save The Bay, SouthCoast Wind, and Ørsted. Our yard signs were prominently displayed in many of the booths throughout the show.
Green Oceans spoke at the Close to the Wind Summit in Hyannis, MA last month. Over 200 supporters filled the auditorium. Other speakers included Jerry Leeman from the New England Fishermen’s Stewardship Association, Bonnie Brady and Meghan Lapp from RODA, and Amy DiSibio from Nantucket Residents for Whales. You can watch all of the presentations here.
New Trustees Katrina Hamilton Gewirz joined the Board of Trustees. We also welcomed Barbara Chapman to the board earlier this fall. We are fortunate to have both in leadership positions!
The Newport Buzz The Newport Buzz has bravely spoken out against the wind farms. They now post our “Keep it Wild” signs on their digital feed.
501(c)3 Status! The IRS officially designated our tax-exempt 501(c)3 status and listed us on their database. You can now donate through donor-advised funds.
