May 2024 Newsletter

Dear Friends and Neighbors,

We want to give you a brief update and thank you all for your support.

Construction Update

NOAA submitted a revised Biological Opinion, reassessing the project’s risk to endangered species, including the North Atlantic right whale, on April 30th . This new version aimed to remedy inadequacies in the original Opinion and, by design, arrived just in time for Ørsted to begin pile driving, as scheduled, in May.

Although Ørsted was forced to delay while monitoring plans were approved, pile-driving on Coxes Ledge started on May 10th for the Revolution Wind project (please see the most recent Green Oceans Instagram reels at instagram.com/greenoceansri). Ørsted has two pile-driving boats—Bokalift 1 & 2—currently stationed on Coxes Ledge to maximize efficiency, but they are not allowed to pile drive concurrently. If anyone witnesses simultaneous pile-driving, please contact us ASAP. We will alert the judge.

We have not been standing by idly while destruction occurs on Coxes Ledge. Green Oceans submitted a new Motion for Stay to the Federal court last week, with the goal of halting construction. We will provide updates on the Motion as soon as we hear anything.

News & Updates

Other Legal Updates

Our Amended Complaint for Revolution Wind (Case No. 1:24-cv-00141) was filed on Monday of last week.

We are filing our Summary Judgment for the National Environmental Protection Act (NEPA) and the Historic Preservation Act (HPA) claims for the South Fork Wind project today, May 20th.

For our state case against CRMC, we are filing an appeal to the Rhode Island Supreme Court challenging the judge’s earlier dismissal.

Your support is needed now more than ever.

Making a donation to Green Oceans will greatly improve our chances of halting the construction of Revolution Wind. In turn, the ripple effect from our success could provide enough hope and traction for the same goal to be achieved with other offshore wind projects that pose a real threat to the environment and thus, our quality of life.

The IRS officially designated our tax-exempt 501(c)3 status and listed us on their database. You can now donate through donor-advised funds. All donations to Green Oceans will help support our mission.
